The Meaning to be a Friend

Everybody seems to view others from their dark side, it's truly difficult to view them from the bright side. It goes the same with me. At first, I view my friends as cold, tempramental, talk a lot (chatty), and so on. I've tried for several times to view them as a good person even I know that's the most difficult part and failed frequently. But, how could you say it's difficult if you have never try it? That's my point. I have the desire to become a good psychologist who work with their heart, not only for proffessionality and not only working with the advanced skills. In order to fulfill my dream, I need to try to view others as a human being who have the both bright side and dark side as a unity and willing to learn from them.

The desire to see others from the bright side gave me a clue, "find the diamonds in the mud" and it means  I must find their bright side behind the dark side. The tempramental person needs perfection for their work, it assumes they always do the best in their work. The cold one seems to be unfriendly, but  they could keep calm in every situation and find the best solution while the others felt there's no solution. The chatty person has a good speaking skills better than me, he/she might be more intelligent than me, especially in speaking skills. There's no point to set a criteria for a friend. Everyone has the bright side and the dark side, just like us. If we view them from the bright side, we could view ourselves from the bright side. But if we view them from the dark side, we tend to view ourselves from the dark side.

Not only have the bright side and the dark side within them, they also have a dream. There's some of my friends who wants to study abroad and sharpen their skills there. My friend has ever said he wants to be a sexologist, while the other wants to become a family counselor, graphologist, or hypnotherapist. There's some of my friends who prefer to sharpen their skills in our country, in Indonesia. When I heard a little part of their dreams, I asked myself "Then, What about me? Do I have a strong desire like them?" They master English language very well and clever too. I think I'm not a kind of person like them, there's a gap between us. There's something I learned from them, "the desire to learn." If I have this, there's no doubt I have strong motivation to learn from others like them. Maybe I can't be like them who learn a lot of everything to reach the dream for now. If I have the chance to be like that, I think I should take it. There's only one thing I can do for now, I'll be rooting for them and find my own way to develop myself.

Talking about friends, how do you answer this question? "What's the meaning to be a friend?" This is a simple question, but has various answers. One might answers "reciprocal," I can give you A and you give me B. The others may answer "love," the meaning to be a friend is to accept everything from others includes the bright side and the dark side. The ability to view others from the dark side and the bright side enable us to understand about our friends. The desire to learn from them is the motivation to develop ourselves. Those are the meaning to be a friend for me. If we'll be able to view them from the both sides and willing to learn from them, we'll able to find a reason why I should maintain the bonds of friendship and do whatever it takes to keep our friendship lasts forever and ever. Friends... You are the inspiration for me to learn, you are the inspiration for me to write...

"Think where man's glory most begins and ends, and say my glory was I have such friends
(William Butler Yeats)
